Man arrested after allegedly stealing Calif. ambulance

Officials said the ambulance was tracked down with help from a police helicopter

FRESNO, Calif. — A man was arrested in California Tuesday for allegedly stealing an ambulance and struggling with police who tried to apprehend him.

Officials said American Ambulance staff called Fresno police to report the ambulance stolen at about 6:30 p.m., according to KFSN. The rig was reportedly stolen from a parking lot while paramedics were getting something to eat.

A police helicopter soon helped locate the ambulance, which was followed to a grocery store in Clovis, according to the Fresno Bee. The man allegedly struggled with officers who tried to apprehend them, causing one officer to sustain minor scrapes.

The suspect was ultimately taken into custody and now faces charges of vehicle theft and resisting arrest. The suspect’s name was not released.

Police said the rig was not damaged and there were no signs of forced entry.
