MARIETTA, Ga. — A man allegedly stole an ambulance from a hospital ambulance bay and drove it 25 miles before abandoning it.

Marietta Daily Journal reported that William Calvin Chastain allegedly stole an ambulance from WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta and drove it 25 miles to Woodstock before abandoning it.

“In the early morning hours of March 17, Puckett EMS reported an ambulance stolen to the Marietta Police Department,” the company said in a statement. “Puckett EMS used in-vehicle GPS locators to track the ambulance from where it was stolen at Kennestone Hospital to where the vehicle was abandoned 25 miles away in Woodstock. The vehicle was recovered by Marietta Police Department officers about 30 minutes after it was taken.”

Chastain was charged with theft and driving with a suspended license.

“Puckett EMS is pressing charges for the theft of the ambulance,” the statement continued. “Because of the potential effect to public safety, we feel seeking legal action is an important deterrent.”
