BUFFALO, N.Y. — Two first responders were injured hospitalized Friday evening while helping a disabled motorist on the I-290 near Niagara Falls Boulevard.

The EMTs from a Twin City Ambulance crew were helping the driver who skidded off the expressway around 9 p.m. Friday when another driver lost control of their car and crashed into the scene.

One EMT was hit and pinned by the vehicles, while the other EMT was inside a car that was hit, according to Terence Clark, president of Twin City Ambulance.

Both of the first responders were transported to Erie County Medical Center for treatment and were in stable condition as of Friday evening, according to Clark.

Their names were not released. No other injuries were reported.

“Tonight we got the call we never wanted,” Clark said in a prepared statement. “I would like to remind people to slow down and move over any time you are approaching emergency vehicles on the roadway. This is especially important during inclement weather.”

Twin City Ambulance was assisted by the Brighton Fire Company and the Town of Tonawanda Police Department during the crash.
