BOSTON — Three construction workers were rescued after a floor collapsed at a power plant in Boston in an operation that involved approximately 100 firefighters.

CBS Boston reported two workers were immediately removed from the building and transported with non-life-threatening injuries to the hospital, but a third worker was trapped for more than three hours.

Boston Fire Commissioner Jack Dempsey told WBZ it was “an extensive extrication operation” that included an on-scene surgeon. An official originally told WBZ the man’s leg was amputated at the scene, but a Boston EMS spokesperson later noted, “Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the Boston Medical Center surgical team, Boston Fire, and our personnel, there was a final effort to extricate the patient, which proved successful. As such, on scene amputation was not required.”
