BLOXWICH, England — An English paramedic has been fired after a man collapsed and died outside of the hospital.
Carl Cope, 47, had called for an ambulance complaining of chest pains and was brought to a local hospital’s accident and emergency department, according to the BBC.
Left in the hospital’s waiting room, Cope went to get a drink and then collapsed outside.
While on the ground, a paramedic saw him, but instead of helping him, he went to get security. A second paramedic, who had actually transported Cope to the hospital, stayed inside his vehicle.
A post-mortem examination found that Cope died from a heart attack due to clogged arteries.
In addition to the fired paramedic, four other ambulance staff members were given warnings.
A second paramedic also resigned before the investigation concluded.
