Arrest: Former EMT pulled over elderly woman, punched car window

He was charged with impersonating an officer after using emergency lights on his personal truck to pull over a woman who drifted into his lane

CHILTON COUNTY, Ala. — A former EMT was arrested and charged with impersonating an officer after allegedly pulling over an elderly driver and punching her car window.

Anthony Rex Marcus, 31, was also charged with harassment and criminal mischief, FOX 6 reports. He is a former EMT who currently works for Shelby County 911.

Police say Marcus was driving behind his mother and son on Highway 145 when an elderly woman heading in the opposite direction drifted into their lane. Marcus turned on red and white emergency lights – which he is not authorized to have – on his personal truck and the woman pulled into a parking lot thinking he was a police officer.

Police say when she couldn’t roll down her manual window quickly enough, Marcus punched the window, causing glass to shatter.

The woman was not injured. She told police she had left work early because she was sick, and was taking a sip of water when it spilled, causing her car to drift.

Clanton Police Chief Brian Stillwell said he knows Marcus and his reaction was not his normal behavior.

Marcus is being held in the Chilton County Jail and awaiting a bond.
