HERRIMAN, Utah — Police and paramedics rushed to a traffic accident in which three teenage girls were injured, one critically, Thursday morning near Herriman High School.
The accident occurred about 7:25 a.m. near the school’s main entrance at 6000 West and 11800 South. All three girls were in a passenger car that collided with a pickup truck. The girls were wearing their seatbelts; the male driver of the pickup truck was not injured, Unified Police Department Lt. Don Hutson said.
Hutson said the small compact car the girls were in was in a left-turn lane leading into the school’s parking lot and darted in front of the oncoming pickup. Another car in front of the girls’ vehicle had gone first, narrowly missing the pickup, he said.
A 16-year-old front-seat passenger was taken by a medical helicopter to Intermountain Medical Center in “very critical” condition. She suffered head and leg trauma, having “taken the brunt” of the collision, Hutson said.
The 17-year-old driver and a 16-year-old back-seat passenger escaped with minor injuries but were taken to hospitals by ambulance to be checked out further, Hutson said.
No citations were immediately issued as the crash remained under investigation, Hutson said.
