VAIL, Colo. — Eagle County Paramedics Services announced the line-of-duty death of one of its paramedics during a rescue call in Vail.
The department posted on Facebook that Paramedic Steve Zuckerman was responding to a backcountry rescue call on Feb. 23 when he died.
The cause of death was not released.
Zuckerman, 61, began working for Eagle County part-time as a paramedic in April 2008 and then full-time in May 2013. He also worked for Beaver Creek Ski Patrol for over 25 years.
“Steve was one of the helpers,” Eagle County Paramedic Services CEO Brandon Daruna said. “He never missed an opportunity to contribute and his death leaves a giant void in our organization and community.”
