Idaho man sentenced in crash that killed paramedic

CANYON COUNTY, Idaho — A Parma man has been sentenced after pleading guilty to misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter in a crash that killed an Ada County paramedic.

Eleazar Perez was sentenced on Aug. 10 in Canyon County to one year in jail, with 340 days suspended, according to court records. KTVB reported Perez can avoid serving the remaining 25 days by completing 100 hours of community service by Aug. 10, 2027.

Perez was also ordered to serve 12 months of unsupervised probation and make restitution payments of at least $200 per month, according to court records.

Perez was charged after a Jan. 4, 2025, head-on crash that killed Ada County Paramedic Lt. Kody Hansen, 33, who was less than a mile from home after work. Police said Perez lost control while passing a semi-trailer on an icy highway.
