NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. — After overcoming challenges in his own life, Andrew Bateson plans to make a difference for others.
This weekend the double amputee completed his training to become an EMT, NBC10 reports.
Bateson lost his legs to bacterial meningitis when he was 6-years-old, and has two prosthetic legs. But since he was a child, he never wanted to be treated differently.
He wore pants for about two weeks after the surgery, then proudly switched to shorts, displaying his physical state to the world.
As he completes his EMT training, he still channels the mantra of his 12-year-old self: Try and try until you get it.”
