A woman on Orange Beach Monday morning was impaled by a wind-blown beach umbrella, according to the Orange Beach Fire Department.
First responders were dispatched to an area of beach in the 2300 block of Perdido Beach Boulevard on a report of a traumatic injury.
When they arrived, rescue personnel found a woman had been impaled through her lower leg by a beach umbrella which had become dislodged in a strong gust of wind.
Firefighters stabilized the woman and then cut the umbrella off on each side of the woman’s leg before she could be transported for emergency care. She was then airlifted to a local trauma center for treatment.
As of Monday evening, the woman was reported in stable condition.
