MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Central Alabama’s largest healthcare facility has completed a $14 million expansion of its emergency department.

Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery has added 11,205 square feet to its ER, increasing its treatment capacity from 53 to 83 rooms, with the potential to accommodate up to 98 treatment areas.

The hospital is the only Level II trauma center in the region.

The expansion was prompted by a growth in demand, according to the hospital. In 2024, the hospital ER treated nearly 57,000 patients from its 17-county service area.

“We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding throughout this construction project as we worked to enhance our ability to serve the community,” the hospital said in a statement.

Patients and visitors arriving at the Emergency Department by private vehicle should enter from the service road located in front of the hospital and follow the signage.

Ambulance entrances have not changed as a result of the expansion.
