Ky. foundation pushes for permanent EMS memorial

The EMS Foundation is hoping to create a permanent memorial for fallen EMS providers next to the existing memorial for fallen firefighters

FRANKFORT, Ky. — As a candlelight vigil was held for fallen EMS providers, the need for a permanent EMS memorial was expressed.

LEX18 reported that 29 EMS providers who have died in the line of duty were honored for the first time Wednesday at the Kentucky Fallen Firefighter Memorial Site.

Kentucky currently has memorials for fallen firefighters and police officers, but the Kentucky EMS Foundation is working to get one added for fallen EMTs and paramedics.

“It was kind of sad when I first learned and found out they didn’t have anything for EMS, so I appreciate what they have done and try to get this memorial built,” Morgan Mackey, the daughter of fallen EMS provider John Mackey, said.
