HINSDALE, Ill. — An off-duty paramedic and nurse helped save a victim of a hit-and-run crash when they were on their way home from a 13-hour shift.

ABC7 reported that nurse Christina Norris and paramedic Britney Shlifka were driving home from the immediate care center where they work when they saw a police officer alone at the scene of the crash.

They stopped to help and administered CPR to the man and kept his neck stabilized when they realized he had no pulse. He started breathing after a few minutes.

“If it wasn’t for these medical professionals that rendered aid, who knows what the outcome would have been,” Deputy Chief Erik Bernholdt said.

The man said he was having car trouble and was crossing the street to get help when he was hit by a vehicle.

“Our main thing is to find the person that did this, that hit somebody and would leave,” Norris said.
