SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. —A young girl died and two other people were injured in San Francisco after they were hit by a car while crossing the street on New Year’s Eve.

Officer Gordon Shyy says the three pedestrians — one woman and two children — were struck about 8 p.m. Tuesday in the city’s Tenderloin neighborhood.

Shyy says the woman’s injuries are life-threatening and that the surviving child, a boy, is expected to survive.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that police say drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors.

Earlier Tuesday, an 87-year-old man was struck and killed by a car in San Francisco’s Crocker-Amazon neighborhood, the paper reports.
