MADISON COUNTY, Va. — Police and rescue crews intensified their search for a firefighter-paramedic who went missing last week.

ABC News reported that Nicole Mittendorff, 31, was reported missing Friday when she didn’t show up for her job with Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

About 100 federal, state and volunteer search-and-rescue agencies and teams spent Monday searching for Mittendorff in the Shenandoah National Forest. Police had to conclude their search efforts at sundown because of the steep, challenging terrain of the area.

The search is concentrated around White Oak Canyon Trail, where Mittendorff’s car was found Saturday. There is still no evidence to indicate foul play, according to police.

Fairfax Fire and Rescue held a news conference this morning to give an update on the search.

“This is our 911 call to the public,” Chief Richard Bowers said. “If you know anything about Nicole Mittendorff, call 703-803-0026.”
