WESTBOROUGH, Mass. — A man who was working on a semi-trailer truck in Westborough on Wednesday morning died while he was on the job, the Worcester County District Attorney’s office said.

The local police department, state police and its detectives in the district attorney’s office were investigating the man’s death as of Dec. 27, and the district attorney stated there is no threat to the general public.

The Westborough Fire Department did not immediately respond for comment, but told other outlets the man was a worker who had been crushed under a 53-foot-long box trailer in a lot off Computer Drive.

Westborough Fire Chief Patrick Purcell told WHDH-TV in Boston that “there was a maintenance truck on scene [and] there were two workers – one was underneath the truck, working on landing gear when the accident happened.”

Purcell told the outlet there was between 50,000 and 70,000 pounds of cargo inside the truck when it collapsed.

The man’s body was trapped underneath and despite rescue crews’ efforts to lift the trailer with airbags and other gear, he was pronounced dead at the scene after an hour, the outlet reported.
