JACKSON, Ky. — Friends and colleagues gathered Monday afternoon to remember and honor a fallen paramedic.

WYMT reported that Gerry Willis was involved in a car crash in September and suffered two strokes after the incident. He had been in the hospital on life support for a week.

Willis worked nearly 25 years in public service; he worked for many departments including Wolfe, Breathitt and Perry. He was working with the Arrow-Med Ambulance service when he died.

“Gerry’s death has not been just a loss to the Arrow-Med family but to the community as a whole,” colleague Roger Duty said. “I mean, he was a great paramedic, great friend, his death left a void that can never be filled.”
