LAPEER COUNTY, Mich. — An off-duty EMT was injured when severe weather caused a tree to fall on the vehicle she was riding in, smashing through the windshield, Michigan Live reported.

Katelyn Furneaux, 36, died from her injuries after she was transported by Lapeer County EMS, where she worked as an EMT for 10 years. Furneaux’s husband and 12-year-old son were also in the car but were not injured in the incident.

In addition to her decade with Lapeer County EMS, Furneaux also served with the Metamora Township Fire Department.

“Kate was first and foremost a loving mom, wife, family member and friend,” her obituary reads. “A huge part of her life was supporting the kids going to numerous baseball and volleyball games. Or just crawling in bed with her kids to watch a movie, however corny. She will be missed by all who knew her.”

A procession in her honor was organized by Lapeer County EMS:
