CUPERTINO, Calif. — Apple announced that they will implement a precise location feature in their next iPhone update.
Apple Insider reported that Apple plans to adopt Advanced Mobile Location, a technology that activates the phone’s GPS and Wi-Fi service and sends the precise location of the caller to dispatchers while an emergency call is being made.
The technology allows dispatchers to pinpoint a phone’s location within 50 yards or less, compared to the average cellphone location radius of around a mile.
The technology has been in use by U.K. cellphone carriers, and Google added support for the service to Android phones with the 9.0 update to Google Play Services.
