QUEENSLAND, Australia — A paramedic was severely injured when he fell up to 16 metres from a helicopter onto a bulk carrier in waters off north Queensland yesterday when a high seas medical rescue went awry.
The paramedic and a helicopter crewman were being lowered onto the ship off Thursday Island to rescue a crew member when the chopper’s winch system jammed.
The rescuers fell 16 metres onto the ship’s deck, injuring both.
