CHICO — A man fell approximately 100 feet while playing at the new Peregrine Point disc golf course on Highway 32 on Sunday.
He was apparently playing disc golf on the seventh hole when a rock outcropping gave way and he fell out of sight.
Chico Fire Department personnel were called to the scene and called for assistance from Cal Fire and Butte County Search and Rescue.
The man was stable when rescuers reached him, but complained of back pain. He was placed into a back-board.
Enloe FlightCare helicopter pilot James Marshall also flies the Butte County Sheriff’s helicopter. Marshall flew to the scene with Enloe medics, switched helicopters and performed the rescue in the sheriff’s helicopter. Afterward, he flew the injured man back to Enloe Medical Center in Chico.
Cal Fire Capt. Scott McLean said the man was doing “remarkably well” for someone who had just fallen 100 feet onto his back.
Chico Fire, Cal Fire and Search and Rescue operators worked together swiftly to rescue the man.
“We’re kind of special in the fact that we have the ability to work with each other,” McLean said. “Regardless of whose jurisdiction it is, ranks go away and we work together.”
