Company’s Efforts to Create New Training Category Pay Off in Second Prestigious Award
Leaders in the EMS field have judged FAAC’s MILO Response simulator to be a premier training product for a second time.
MILO Response has earned the EMS World New Product Innovation recognition for 2014 and will be formally recognized next week at the EMS Today Conference in Baltimore. Earlier last year the new simulator also was awarded EMS Today’s HOT Product Award.
“Receiving our second independent EMS industry award is very gratifying,” said Bill Martin, FAAC’s Public Safety Business Manager. “Our sole focus is producing simulation training products, and to create a brand new category of training for the EMS market and then being acknowledged at this level out of the gate means that we hit the mark. We knew we were on the right track to provide a new and engaging training product for EMTs, Fire-Rescue, and hospitals.
“To have industry leaders independently observe MILO Response and conclude that this training product will directly aid in the safety of our EMTs and others gives us great pride.”
MILO Response, which was introduced to the market earlier this year, advances EMT training by placing a team in a dynamic and immersive training environment that provides real-life situations unfolding in real-time. The result of this fully ‘life-sized’ training environment is a simulation that fully engages the learner and produces students who make smarter and safer decisions.
This bridge between classroom and real-life experience adds a new dimension to an instructor’s training program. The system develops and improves the trainee’s field skills in an intensified setting using outcomes-based scenarios created with specific training objectives in mind.
Scenarios are specifically designed to meet a targeted training objective. They generally pose several decision points to the trainee through video-branching pathways. Based on the trainee’s reaction to the decision point, the on-screen subjects react accordingly and either comply or do not comply. In other words, this is a safe learning environment where a learner’s good decisions lead to positive outcomes and bad decisions generally produce negative outcomes.
Scenarios are selected from a pre-built library by an instructor based on his or her training objective. FAAC’s professionally created scenario curriculum includes training in the areas of:
• Observation / situational awareness / scene assessment
• Strategic / positional / safety awareness
• Medical assessment / differential diagnosis
• Ethical / emotional response management
• Verbal communications / cultural and behavioral sensitivity skills
• Procedural protocols, such as R.A.C.E., infectious disease screening, and patient elopement.
Since its unveiling, MILO Response continues to push the outer limits of its training capability. FAAC has crafted a simulation trainer that agencies can use to create their own training content in addition to the on-board included scenarios, allowing them to place their trainees in situations that the agency and its members may have actually encountered. Students go ‘hands-on’ and practice different tactics and techniques they will need to use in the field. Extended time in a real-life, simulation exercise equals a more effective trainee, which means a better prepared professional to safely handle the daily rigors and non-traditional reactions necessary in today’s various health fields.
