LZControl has created a free, national database for helicopter landing zones designed to be shared among hospitals and pre-hospital providers.
The crowdsourced, Wiki-based database includes pre-designated landing zones often prepared by responders for medical emergencies requiring an air ambulance, as well as hospital helipads and airports.
The information is cross referenced to provide air crews with information such as the closest trauma center or cardiac center, aircraft fuel availability, and flight path weather, according to the company.
When someone requests a user account for LZControl, they are given immediate read-only access. When the email address is confirmed, they are given access to update or add information to the database.
The database currently is available on web accessible devices.
