BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Brevard County taxpayers are on the hook for more than $6 million because people requiring emergency medical transportation to local hospitals did not pay their bills associated with that service.
It’s a constant issue, both in Brevard County and in other communities, according to interim Brevard County Fire Rescue Chief Mark Schollmeyer. And there’s little that can be done about it.
Most of the people who don’t pay their bills have no health insurance, Schollmeyer said.
