SYDNEY, Australia — An ambulance was involved in a three-car crash also involving a truck that left four people injured in Sydney’s south-west this morning, the ambulance service says.
The ambulance was heading to an emergency call when it was involved in the accident, which occurred about 6.30am on Newbridge Road, Chipping Norton, near the junction of Governor Macquarie Drive, an ambulance spokesman said.
It is believed an eastbound truck collided with the ambulance and a van travelling in the same direction.
“The truck spun and mounted the footpath before coming to rest in the front yard of a home,” police said.
“The female ambulance driver sustained minor injuries and her male colleague sustained lacerations to his back and neck.”
Three patients were taken to Liverpool Hospital.
“Two were ambulance officers with minor injuries, and the other was the truck driver with serious injuries,” the ambulance spokesman said.
“Another patient at the scene was being assisted and will be transported to hospital.”
One of the ambulance officers had been trapped in the ambulance for a short time, the spokesman said.
Newbridge Road has been closed in both directions between Henry Lawson Drive and Governor Macquarie Drive, police said. It will remain closed for several hours.
The RTA said traffic was heavy and advised motorists to avoid the area.
