Restoration of '66 Ford ambulance a labor of love

A retired W.Va. funeral home director restored the ambulance he used as an apprentice in the 1960s

ELKVIEW, W.Va. — A set of special wheels is helping a Kanawha Valley funeral home mark 90 years of service to families.

A replica 1966 Ford Ambulance has been a labor of love for Hafer Funeral Home Director Emeritus Steve Strickland.

For the last 18 months he's been working to replicate the kind of ambulance they drove for the Elkview business back in the 1960s, the same time he served as an apprentice.
