WORCESTER, Mass. — Worcester police are investigating a violent stabbing incident near Crompton Park on Monday that put a 16-year-old male in critical condition.
Police on patrol responded to the area of Endicott and Harding streets around 5:11 p.m. after seeing a large group gathering at the intersection. When police arrived, two males sprinted toward a Blue Honda RAV 4 and drove off, authorities said.
At the scene, officers witnessed a 16-year-old victim bleeding heavily from a serious stab wound to his lower back.
The victim’s injuries were so severe that an officer was tasked with driving the ambulance while EMTs kept him in stable condition on the way to the hospital, police said.
He was immediately taken into emergency surgery after arriving at the hospital. Police said he was in critical condition when he arrived but is believed to have been stabilized.
Officers shifted their attention to the suspect’s vehicle and alerted all surrounding units to keep an eye out for the blue Honda.
The vehicle was spotted on Vernon Street, and then finally stopped on Dillon Street.
There were four people in the car, including two 17-year-old males who police put under arrest.Witnesses identified one of them as the person who committed the stabbing, police said.
He was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and armed assault with intent to murder. Another 17-year-old was arrested on a warrant unrelated to the incident.
The other occupants were not arrested but were questioned at police headquarters. The Honda has been towed and investigators are expected to receive a search warrant to process the vehicle for evidence.
