New paramedic motorbikes arrive at England ambulance station

Sevenoaks Chronicle

Sevenoaks ambulance station is pleased to house one of six revolutionary new paramedic motorbikes.

The Honda STX 1300 bikes are equipped with the latest mobile telecommunication devices, which will allow paramedics to reduce emergency response times.

Unlike its predecessor, the new bike is installed with the latest satellite navigation system, earpiece telephones and radio communications.

Motorbike paramedics are very often the first people on the scene of an accident.

Their job is to administer the necessary treatment and stabilise the patient where possible before the ambulance arrives.

The South East Coast Ambulance Service was formed at the beginning of July following a merger of the Kent, Sussex and Surrey ambulance trusts.

Operations support manager Bob Digby, who oversees the paramedic bikes in Kent, said: “With congestion a real issue in today’s society, having a motorbike unit is very important.

“We are able to strategically place them in areas where there is high call activity and heavy traffic congestion.”

The previous fleet of six motorbikes will be sold and the money raised given to charity.
