CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — A Clay County firefighter-paramedic resigned after an internal investigation looking into an X-rated selfie of him was posted online began.
Lt. Anthony Myrick was on administrative leave and resigned hours after the photo was posted, reported Action News Jax.
Clay County Fire Chief Lorin Mock confirmed that the photo was taken inside a fire station bathroom while Myrick was on duty and in uniform.
The photo was shared by an unnamed woman on the department’s Facebook page, but has since been taken down.
“I own a small business. If somebody did something like that in a T-shirt with my name on it, I’d fire them on the spot,” Clay County business owner Josh Murray said. “ People who work for the fire department, we look up to as kind of pillars in the community.”
Not everybody thought the photo was serious enough to cost him his job. Several, many of them women, commenting on Action News’ Facebook page said nude selfies were common practice and were unhappy that the woman was allowed to remain anonymous.
Heather McDougal wrote, “The person who posted the photo was wrong for that and extremely immature. It’s a penis, get over it.”
And, Laura Beth Forshaw wrote, “Why go out of your way to ruin someone’s life/career? It’s not like he sent them to a minor!”
Myrick, an 11-year veteran, was previously disciplined in 2010 after “inappropriate and unprofessional behavior” while administering H1H1 vaccines at local schools.
In 2011, the county found him guilty of incompetence, insubordination, neglect of duty and moral turpitude.
Myrick was unavailable for comment.
In the past year, two Clay County firefighters resigned after suspicion of selling heroin and having sex in a firehouse while on duty.
