JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. — A family member of the EMT accused of killing his wife says he’s not guilty. Michael Whitehead is charged with murder in the death of his 24-year-old wife, but his grandmother said there is more to it than that.

Police say Whitehead, 26, killed his wife, Ashley, but Joyce Hamaker says her grandson’s whole focus was helping others, especially his young daughter and chronically ill wife. “She had gotten where she was in the hospital more than she was out,” said Hamaker.

According to Hamaker, her grandson and his wife were a young couple with big problems.
