EMT’s driver’s license suspended after unborn baby dies in crash

A woman lost her unborn son after the EMT ran a stop sign and hit her SUV

FORT MYERS, Fla. — An EMT had his driver’s license suspended for six months and was fined $1,000 after hitting an expectant mother’s SUV in February.

WinkNews reported that Kristina Childs lost her unborn son following the accident after Harris Berenson, a Lee County EMT, hit her car. Berenson was ticketed for careless driving after authorities said he was driving 17 miles per over the speed limit and ran a stop sign, according to the report. He was transporting a patient in a non-emergency situation and did not have lights and sirens activated.

The case did not warrant criminal charges and a traffic citation was sufficient, but Berenson’s attorney said his client would likely lose his job without a driver’s license, according to the report.
