Boston medic slapped with 73 indictments for alleged drug tampering

Health officials had warned earlier this year that Brian Benoit may have tampered with drugs during a six-week period in summer 2011

BOSTON — A Boston paramedic appeared in court Friday accused of stealing scores of pain killers and sedatives from ambulances and locked drug storage areas.

Brian Benoit was released without bail after his arraignment on 73 counts in Suffolk Superior Court on the condition that that he not work as a paramedic or EMT while his case is pending, according to The Boston Herald.

Prosecutors say Benoit – who denies the charges -- stole morphine and fentanyl intended for patients being transported, and replaced the medications with saline and vitamin B to avoid detection

The court heard that 10 people received diluted drugs but there is no evidence anyone was harmed.
