CINCINNATI — An ambulance company owner accused of submitting more than $1.4 million in fraudulent bills to Medicare and Medicaid has pleaded guilty in Ohio to health care fraud and money laundering charges.
The federal prosecutor’s office says 42-year-old Terry Johnson of Hamilton pleaded guilty Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Cincinnati to the two charges. He could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison on each count.
Court documents say Johnson fraudulently billed the federal health insurance programs for about seven years for transportation services when patients were not transported.
Authorities say Johnson owned and operated Community Angels Ambulance Service and operated the Starlite Transportation ambulance company.
Officials say about $1.1 million was fraudulently billed to Medicare for Community Angels. Medicaid’s loss from both companies totaled more than $356,000.
