NYC names square after late 9/11 EMT

FDNY EMT Luis de Pena Jr. died in November of 2013 due to an illness related to his work on Ground Zero

NEW YORK — The city of New York honored a 9/11 first responder by naming a square after him.

FDNY EMT Luis de Pena Jr. died in November of 2013 due to an illness related to his work on Ground Zero following the Sept. 11 attacks, Fox 5 New York reported.

De Pena helped save dozen of lives when he responded to the World Trade Center.

“He was the type of person that if he had something, you had it too,” said de Pena’s sister. “For him it was all about giving.”

De Pena was an 18-year EMT veteran. West 172 Street and Amsterdam Avenue is now called EMT Luis de Pena Jr. Square.
