MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — A patient being transported to a hospital in a private ambulance early Friday allegedly attacked EMS providers, stole the ambulance and led police on a chase that ended near the Pentagon, NBC Washington reported.

Nicholas Albano, 31, has been charged. He is said to have put one of the EMS providers in a headlock and punched them repeatedly.

The crewmember behind the wheel tried to help subdue the patient, and Albano took the wheel. The two responders got out of the rig in Rockville, Md., and the patient in the vehicle fled.

Montgomery County police gave chase. Albano surrendered to Virginia State Police.
