WEATHERSFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio — An EMT scholarship was created to honor a beloved fire chief who died last year.

WKBN reported that the Red Knights Motorcycle Club handed out two EMT scholarships to recipients Michael Krause and Abigail Lambert in honor of the late former Weathersfield Township Fire Department Chief Randy Pugh.

Pugh started his first responder career as an EMT with Lane LifeTRANS and eventually became chief of operations.

“Most of the people involved in this club, he has touched one way or the other,” RKMC President Barry Schroeder said. “This was the best way, we figured, we could honor him, would be to continue to put people through the EMS program.”

Applicants wrote an essay to be considered for the scholarship. Krause and Lambert will soon begin classes at the Lane LifeTRANS Training Center.

Pugh died April 4 after battling cancer. He was chief of the department for 20 years.
