PEABODY, Mass. — A dispatcher who fell asleep during a 911 call has reached a settlement with the city.
FOX News reported that former dispatcher John Brophy was on the phone in 2005 with someone who called about a 6-month-old infant who was not breathing, when he fell asleep.
An EMS crew and police heard the call and saved the baby after reaching the home in time, and Brody was fired after the incident.
It was later ruled that Brophy needed to be rehired by the city, but former Mayor Mike Bonfanti fired him again after he failed to submit to a drug test. Brophy’s lawyers said he did not have to submit to the drug test.
The terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
