DANVILLE, Pa. — A man has been sentenced to state prison after stealing an ambulance outside an emergency department in October.

Penn Live reported that Adam Zaharick was sentenced to 1 to 4 years in state prison for hijacking an ambulance and driving it to a drug store to steal items.

Zaharick’s sentence also included a requirement to comply with mental health recommendations and a restitution of $60,394 for damages to the ambulance.

The ambulance was stolen just after a paramedic and EMT had transported a patient to the emergency room. They were still cleaning out the back when Zaharick jumped inside and sped off. They were able to jump out of the back unharmed.

Zaharick was unable to post his $100,000 bail and was given credit for the 231 days he spent in jail as a result.
