Ambulance agency under fire for not reporting fatal drowning incident

Police said it took days for them to be notified that a girl drowned in a private pool

HAVERSTRAW, N.Y. — An ambulance agency is under fire after failing to notify police that a child drowned in a pool.

Westchester News 12 reported that a 7-year-old girl drowned in a private pool last month. Private EMS agency Hatzolah Ambulance was called, and police said the girl was taken to the hospital but it was days before they were notified of the incident.

Haverstraw police are investigating the incident and why they weren’t called. They said this is not the first time an incident went unreported, with the largest number of cases stemming from Hatzolah Ambulance.

The ambulance agency said they notify police when they have to.

No charges are expected to be filed as the death appears to be accidental, but Haverstraw police said a new law was proposed to make it illegal to not report an incident.
