SAN ANTONIO — An EMT testified in a child abuse case involving the death of a 5-year-old boy.
My San Antonio reported that Robert Kurt Johnson told the jury in the case against Gloria Proo, the step-grandmother of the child, that when he responded to a cardiac arrest call he found Josiah Williams dead, with injuries all over his body in various states of healing. He was also “severely emaciated.”
“His eyes were swollen shut to the point that I could not make a proper evaluation of his pupils,” Johnson told the jury.
Johnson also said the child’s jaw was so “rigorous” that he could not fit a tube in his mouth.
Proo is the second of three adults to be tried for injury to a child/severe bodily injury by omission. Authorities said Josiah was starved and beaten.
Proo’s daughter, Crystal Williams, was convicted and sentenced to 99 years in prison. The boy’s father, Charleston Williams, is currently awaiting trial.
