Fla. EMS chief hospitalized after cardiac arrest

Lake County Fire Rescue EMS Chief Dan Miller is in critical condition after experiencing cardiac arrest

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Lake County Fire Rescue EMS Chief Dan Miller is in the hospital after going into cardiac arrest on Sept. 18 at his residence.

According to Fox 35, Miller is still in critical condition.

“Please keep him in your prayers,” Lake County Fire Rescue Chief Jim Dickerson said. “Every day is a challenge, and we’re going to have some ups and downs, but hopefully we’re going to have more ups than downs. I will continue to update the Central Florida fire community of his progress.”

Community members have rallied behind Miller and his family by raising funds, and firefighters with Lake County Fire Rescue are taking shifts to comfort the family during this time. In addition, the Lake County Firefighters Charity, in cooperation with friends and fellow firefighters, are providing meals.

The Texas Roadhouse in Clermont will donate 10% of its dining proceeds on Sept. 30 from 3:00 p.m. until it closes. A GoFundMe page has been set up to for the family, and the Big Red Bus will accept donations at the Leesburg National Night Out on Oct. 1 between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Chief Miller has served the community for 22 years as a firefighter and is credited with establishing the Lake County Fire Rescue’s elite Venom 2 Unit.
