LOGAN, Utah — A carbon monoxide leak at the Cache County Jail sent 15 people to the hospital Thursday, including a number of inmates.

Both inmates and staff began complaining of nausea and headaches around 2 p.m., prompting a nurse to remove everyone from the kitchen area, the Cache County Sheriff’s Office said.

Paramedics arrived and confirmed that everyone who had been in that location had been exposed to carbon monoxide, leading to three staff members and 12 inmates being transported to an area hospital for treatment.

It is believed they will all be treated and released. The cause of the leak was apparently a stove burner that was not fully burning.

The gas has since been shut off to the burner and the kitchen is currently back in use. At no time was the jail placed on lockdown.
