ELIZABETH, N.J. — EMTs and emergency room staff played a friendly game of kickball on Oct. 22 in an effort to raise funds for a colleague with cancer.
“Kickball for a Cause” became a fundraiser for EMT and Trinitas ALS Coordinator Brant Maslowski, who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in June.
“In his time with Trinitas Hospital, Brant has exemplified what it means to be a public servant, often putting aside his own needs to provide exceptional service to the people who fall under his care,” EMT Kate Donahue told Tap into Elizabeth.
Elizabeth EMS, Trinitas Emergency Department staff and Trinitas EMS participated in the event.
“These events are so important because they strengthen the existing friendships between EMS personnel, community leaders and our local hospital staff while demonstrating the resolve of the community we serve in giving back to someone who has given so much to countless others,” EMT Matt Blaskewicz said.
A benefit barbeque and raffle, along with the kickball games, raised over $4,700 for Maslowski. Orange and black paracord bracelets in support of Maslowski have seen sold since September.
“We have transformed this social event into a successful benefit to assist a true leader and friend,” Donahue said.
