NORTH LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Fearful times of mass shootings and terrorist attacks require a new accessory in the public arena: a “severe bleeding kit.”
Within weeks, North Lauderdale will be the latest South Florida city to install the kits, essentially tourniquets and bandages, in public areas. The idea is to enable bystanders to apply critical treatment in case of a bombing or mass shooting.
“Unfortunately it’s a necessary evil now,” North Lauderdale Fire Battalion Chief Bill McGrath said. “If it’s available, it will make a difference to one person.”
