NY bicyclist dies after collision with SUV

Bruce Pye suffered head and internal injuries; he was taken by ambulance to the hospital but was later pronounced dead

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — A Farmingdale man died Saturday night after his bicycle collided with an SUV in Melville, Suffolk County police said.

Bruce Pye, 33, had been bicycling east on Old Country Road when the collision occurred with a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe that was making a left onto Tuxedo Drive from Old Country Road shortly after 3 p.m., police said.

Pye suffered head and internal injuries, police said. He was taken by ambulance to Nassau University Medical Center in critical condition, but was pronounced dead at 7:45 p.m., police said.

The SUV driver, Salvatore Ceravolo, 48, of Melville, was not injured and stayed at the scene, police said.

Police said the crash appears noncriminal.
