HAVERFORD TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Paramedics received a special visit after helping deliver a couple’s second child.

Narberth-Haverford EMS responded to the home of Summer and Francis Paolone March 9. Paolone was home alone with her 2-year-old son when her water broke two weeks before her due date. Paolone, who works as a nurse practitioner, called her husband, who is a volunteer at a fire company. Aware that he may not make it to their home time, Paolone called 911.

“They were there in five minutes. It happened so fast,” Paolone told the Main Line Times. “I still planned on going to the hospital but one paramedic told me, ‘We’re going to have the baby here.’”

The Paolone’s visited paramedics at the station to thank them and to meet Halstead, their newborn son.

For 37-year veteran paramedic Jim McCans, Halstead’s delivery was the first he’s ever done.

“Lately it’s been tough losing so many young people to overdoses. This is really uplifting,” McCans said.

A family from Haverford Township came to pay a visit to the crew that helped deliver their newborn baby last week. Haverford Township Director of EMS Jim McCans, and the Narberth Ambulance EMS providers were excited about the opportunity, and could not be more thankful for the partnership between Narberth Ambulance and Haverford Township.
