Paramedics honored for assisting in dangerous arrest

Lambton EMS paramedics Blake Smith and Mark Duffy helped defuse an “extremely violent” scene where one officer was injured

ONTARIO, Canada — Two paramedics received an award for assisting in a dangerous arrest.

The Observer reported that Lambton EMS paramedics Blake Smith and Mark Duffy responded to an “extremely violent” arrest scene last November after an officer was injured.

Police Chief Norm Hansen said Duffy and Smith helped defuse the situation and “saved the officer.”

“(They) saved the officer from further injury,” Hansen said. “Although we’re all in this together it’s not part of their duties to jump into arrests . . . we really appreciated (their actions).”

Smith and Duffy were given the Citizen’s Commendation Award for their actions.
