Victims in W.Va. ambulance crash identified

Three were hurt in the crash that occured as the ambulance was headed to an emergency

PUTNAM COUNTY, W. Va. — Police have identified three people hurt when a car slammed into an ambulance in Putnam County on Monday.

A Putnam County ambulance was heading south on W.Va. 34 at about 9:20 p.m. Monday when it was hit head-on by a Pontiac Grand Am about 1/4 mile from the intersection of W.Va. 34 and U.S. 60.

Hurricane Police Chief Mike Mullins said the Pontiac was driven by Tonya Smith, 23, of Branchland.

Smith had to be cut out of the vehicle. Also injured were the ambulance driver, Corey Smith, and fellow Putnam County paramedic Christy Roberts.

Mullins said the ambulance was on the way to a medical call when the incident occurred.
