Mich. paramedic chastised for driving wounded officer to hospital

FLINT TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell is defending a paramedic chastised for driving a wounded police officer to the hospital.

Pickell awarded deputy Casey Tafoya for his actions and has recommended other paramedics do the same thing under similar circumstances.

Tafoya responded to a shooting October ninth at a Flint Township apartment complex. Edward Campbell shot his own son and two police officers before being fatally shot by police.

Tafoya transported one of the wounded officers to the hospital in his own vehicle.

That’s in violation of state and local regulations. Bruce Trevithick of the Genesee County Medical Control Authority says Tafoya should have treated the officer at the scene and waited for an ambulance to arrive.
